Child & Youth Program Assistant
SALARY: Entry Level-$11.30, Intermediate Level-$12.31, Target Level-$13.85. These are flexible positions only; 0-40 Hours; NO Benefits
LOCATION: Child & Youth Programs, Naval Air Station, Joint Reserve Base, New Orleans, Louisiana

MUST BE AT LEAST 18 YEARS OF AGE AND SUBMIT PROOF OF EDUCATION (i.e. Diploma, Degree or Transcripts) TO BE CONSIDERED
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensures that the childcare provided is in compliance with child development standards as outlined in applicable regulations.
- Assists in planning and conducting an effective child development program to meet physical, social, emotional and intellectual needs of each child based upon stated goals and a curriculum plan provided by the supervisor.
- Reviews and implements daily schedules and activity plans. Arranges room and play materials to accommodate the daily schedule, sets up displays and bulletin boards.
- Helps create adult-made games and play materials (i.e. mixing paints, playdough, and assembling props for dramatic play activities, etc.) and assists with developing a list a of needed supplies and equipment for submission to the supervisor.
- Receives children from parents, notes all special instructions which parents may provide, maintains an accurate count of children in their charge, conducts daily health checks of children, notifies the supervisor pr center director of any marks or other signs that might indicate a suspicion of illness, abuse or neglect.
- Creates a pleasant, inviting atmosphere for children, ensures the safety and sanitation of children through constant supervision, effective arrangement of space, and proper maintenance of equipment.
- Attends to physical needs of the children (i.e. diapering, feeding, toileting, resting, etc.), helps children to develop self-help skills, rocks and hold babies, and assists children during family style meals.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum High School Diploma/GED required.
GSE-02: Must be at least 18 years of age with a high school diploma or equivalent. Prior experience working with children and/or youth preferred.
GSE-03: Must have six (6) months experience working with children or youth in a child or youth setting AND have completed child abuse modules and modules 1, 2 and 10 of the DoN Standardized Module Training.
GSE-04: An incumbent must have:

Completion of the DoN Standardized Module Training AND 12 months of experience working with children and youth.
OR
-
A Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or Military School-Age (MSA) credential.
OR
-
2-year degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE), Child Development or reflated field of study, which can include Youth Recreation, Physical Education, Elementary Education, Secondary Education, Youth Development, Psychology, Social Work, Home Economics with an emphasis in Human Development, or other degrees as appropriate.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Position is subject to special inoculation and immunization requirements as a condition of employment for working with children. Employee is required to obtain appropriate immunization against communicable diseases in accordance with recommendations from the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), which includes the influenza vaccine.
Test Designated Position: In accordance with the Department of the Navy Test Designated Position listing issued 7 October 2003 this position is subject to both pre-employment and random drug testing as a condition of employment. A positive drug test, or failure to submit for testing, may become the basis for removal from this position.
Must obtain appropriate credentials as required.
Must pass a pre-employment physical, provide evidence of immunization and be free from communicable disease.
Satisfactorily complete all background checks in accordance with PL 101-647 to include National Agency Check with Written Inquiries (NACI).
Must satisfactorily obtain or complete required training certificates and maintain certifications or credentials required by federal, state or National Accreditation institutions utilized as part of DOD’s Child and Youth Programs.
